Large Gilt Polychrome Painted Papie-mache Tray Decorated with a Peacock, England, early 19th century, scallop edged tray centrally painted with a peacock surrounded by butterflies, birds, flowers and foliage, on a green-painted ground, highlighted with gilt, the reverse signed "W. Baily & Son 71 Gracechurch Street London", (repaired cracks), 24 3/4 x 32 in. The reverse is signed "W. Baily & Son 71 Gracechurch Street London," at the center. There are several areas where the flat tray meets the sloped edges which have unobtrusive repairs to separations or cracks with associated retouch, at the top of the tray at the scallop point, is separated about 1/8 in. scattered spots of retouch to birds and butterflies, a few small spots on peacock, area on center right side of tray background retouched.
