George III Silver Claret Jug, London, 1778, maker's mark IR, possibly John Rowe, vasiform, short spout with beaded rim, lid with finial formed as reclining jester, partially rattan wrapped loop handle formed as entwined snake, girdle with beaded band of drapery swags, body applied with two roundels, one with pair of cherubs bearing a monogrammed shield, the other with figures beside a millstream, with further swags, trumpet foot, and square base, ht. 13 1/4 in., approx. 38 troy oz.
