American School, 20th Century Rutland Railroad Steam Locomotive "Ticonderoga. " Unsigned. Watercolor and gouache on paper, 13 x 28 3/4 in., in a molded wood frame. Condition: Minor toning. Provenance: Note: According to inscriptions on the reverse, taken from The Rutland Road, by Jim Shaughnessy, Syracuse University Press, the "Ticonderoga was built by the Taunton Locomotive Works," (Taunton Locomotive Manufacturing Company of Taunton, Massachusetts), "in 1852." The locomotive was "originally on the roster of the Montreal & Plattsburg Railroad, which was among several leased by the Rutland." The "locomotive was scrapped in 1880." The image was executed "by the first draughtsman employed by the Rutland Railroad, and was presented to President Caverly in 1957."
