Stenciled Pine Shaker Dwelling House Sign, North Family Shakers, Enfield, Connecticut, c. 1835, rectangular sign with raised panel with chamfered edges, black stenciled lettering "NF SHAKERS," on a faint red-stained ground, (minor age cracks), 10 x 15 in. Note: This sign board was originally inset into a cupboard door typical of panels formed by noted Enfield Shaker cabinet maker Abner Alley. At some point the panel was made into a sign with the stenciled "N.F. SHAKERS" added. An undated history card included with the sign states that the sign was "on the door of a dwelling house until the society buildings were demolished by the State of Connecticut," which purchased the site to construct state institutional buildings c. 1917, as membership dwindled to eight members and the society was dissolved.
