Pair of Brass and Iron Ball-top Andirons, Newport, Rhode Island, third quarter 18th century, ball finials atop swollen columnar shafts and plinths with circular bosses over arched legs with spurred knees, and ball and claw feet, with conforming log stops, (small seam separation), ht. 19 3/4, wd. 11 3/8, dp. 17 1/4 in. Literature: Similar andirons attributed to the Newport, Rhode Island area are illustrated in The Brass Book by Peter, Nancy, and Herbert Schiffer, Schiffer Publishing Ltd., West Chester, Pennsylvania, p. 71.
