"QUINCES" Cobalt Blue Stoneware Jar, Clarkson Crolius Sr. , New York City, 1797-1815, ovoid jar with impressed label "QUINCES" highlighted by a cobalt blue brushed scallop and dot design, the other side with impressed maker's mark "C. CROLIUS MANUFACTURER MANHATTAN-WELLS NEWYORK," surrounded by the same scallop and dot design, (minor rim and base chips), ht. 10 in. Note: The same impressed maker's mark is illustrated on an inkwell in Decorated Stoneware Pottery of North America by David Blake Webster, Charles Tuttle Company, Rutland Vermont, publisher, plate 245 on p. 182.
