American School, Early 20th century, Portrait of the Seven-Mast Steel Schooner Thomas W. Lawson. Unsigned. Oil on academy board, 18 x 24 in. , in a molded and gilded wood frame. Condition: Very good. The Thomas W. Lawson was launched in 1902 by the Fore River Ship -building Company at Quincy, Massachusetts and was the only seven-mast schooner ever built. She made several coastal trips between Philadelphia and Texas but was lost in 1907 and ended up anchored off the Scilly Islands on the English coast waiting out a storm, but she capsized during the night and all hands were lost but one.
