Ship Diorama of the Seven-Mast Steel Schooner Thomas W. Lawson, America, early 20th century, the diorama with carved wooden hull, sails, masts, and accoutrements, the schooner's name identified on the bow and stern, the hull painted green, mounted in a deep mitered wooden frame with painted putty sea and painted background sky, 26 1/4 x 49 1/4 in. Note: The Thomas W. Lawson was launched in 1902 by the Fore River Ship -building Company at Quincy, Massachusetts and was the only seven-mast schooner ever built. She made several coastal trips between Philadelphia and Texas but was lost in 1907 and ended up anchored off the Scilly Islands on the English coast waiting out a storm, but she capsized during the night and all hands were lost but one.
