Frederick Carl Frieseke (American, 1874-1939) SEWING Signed "F. C. Frieseke" l.l., identified on a label from R.H. Love Galleries, Chicago, and in information inscribed on the reverse. Watercolor on paper, sight size 9 x 10 1/4 in. (22.9 x 26.0 cm), framed. Condition: Subtle toning, mild rippling, not examined out of frame. Provenance: The estate of the artist to the Turner collection c. 1970's, at R.H. Love Galleries, Chicago, in 1980. Exhibitions: Retrospective Exhibition of Paintings by Frederick C. Frieseke, N.A. , Grand Central Galleries (in association with Macbeth gallery), March 21-April 5, 1939, no. 53. N.B. Most likely completed c. 1924, this work is perhaps a prepatory sketch for Frieseke's Blue Curtains . This work will be included in Nicholas Kilmer's upcoming catalogue raisonne on Frieseke. A copy of a letter by Kilmer describing this work accompanies the lot.
