James L. Weston (Canadian, c. 1815-1896) Number 4 Sailing Among Large Ships Signed and dated "J.WESTON. 1881-" l.l., identified in information affixed to the backing. Oil on canvas, 22 x 40 in. (55.9 x 101.6 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouched, craquelure. N.B. Weston is best known for his expansive views of harbors and sailing subjects. Although he did work as an independent artist, he also worked in the studio of Montreal photographer William Notman.
