American School, 19th Century Two portraits: A gentleman and a lady in an interior setting, possibly New York State, 1835,45. (A) The gentleman is presented in a neoclassical setting with a secretaire abattant in the background while he sits on a red-covered carved classical sofa with a scroll beside him with his feet on a yellow, red and green ingrain carpet; (B) The lady is depicted in the same setting with the addition of a floor length fringed table cover in the same colors as the ingrain carpet topped by a footed glass vase of flowers, sight ht. 35 5/8, wd. 27 1/2 in. (sight), in original regilded frames with minor gesso loss. Condition: Both paintings have been restored, including re-lining and inpainting; minor craquelure and bloom on (A).
