Pieced and Appliqued Cotton Mariner's Compass Quilt, Pennsylvania German or New Jersey, c. 1845, composed of five whole and eight partial blocks with Mariner's Compass motifs in printed red, green, yellow, and blue cotton fabrics, set diagonally, with red and white sawtooth sashing and oak leaves appliqued in the block corners, with sawtooth and swag borders, the background fabric with a fine light blue print on a white ground, red binding and the backing matching the background fabric, quilted with oak leaves, feather, and outline stitches, (minor stains), 107 x 107 in.
