Pieced and Embroidered Wool and Cotton "Orange Peel" Quilt. Pennsylvania, c 1880, the main body of the quilt is done in an "orange peel" design, the diamond shaped areas with crazy "string" piecing using solid and print wool fabrics and a few cottons, each diamond centered with a folk motif including hearts, flowers birds, houses, baskets, hands, leaves and others; red and black zig-zag border and a wide black border, red wool binding and black wool backing, with feather and crazy quilt type stitching over the seam lines, triple cable quilt stitching on outer border, (minor losses), 78 x 78 in.
