19th century. Hand fabricated oval miniature portrait necklace pendant with painting on ivory of a a young Indian woman with elaborate headdress and garment with pointed building peeking over shoulder at left. Sitter possibly Mumtaz Mahal, wife of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Female figure portrayed at bust length and contained within an 18k yellow gold necklace pendant frame with beaded border with C scroll and eight oval turquoise cabochons. Frame and painting apparently unmarked. Overall approximately 3.25" x 2.4".
