Plateau Cornhusk Bag, c. 1900, the rectangular form with multicolored yarn embroidery on both sides, stacked rows of two-color diamond devices on one side, and three bands of stepped diamonds on the reverse, (minor wool loss, stains), lg. 11 in. Provenance: John Greene, after descent through the Greene family. George A. Greene, Sr. (1864-1933) married Elizabeth Gallagher, daughter of Peter and Nanniet Gallagher. Peter Gallagher (1805-1871) was an Indian agent, and this is bag is believed to have been given to the family from the Shoshone culture, possibly by the Nez Perce, a large Idaho tribe.
