Southwest Beaded Hide Pouch, Apache, c. 1880s, the yellow stained buckskin pouch edged with four-inch fringe and partially beaded on both sides in geometric and abstract floral devices using polychrome seed beads, original tag reads "Elish H. Rhodes Providence R.I. Tobacco Pouch. found by U.S. soldier in Arizona in the year 1885 (August) while following a party of Indians who had left the reservation," lg. with fringe 9 1/2 in. Provenance: Descended in the family of Elisha Hunt Rhodes, of P.B.S. Civil War Documentary fame, biography included.
