English, circa 1874. Windsor style ladderback Royal Chapel chair in beech with rush seat on turned legs united by twin turned stretchers. The chair has a curved top back splat upon which "St. Paul's" is carved. This example made in the workshops in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. This piece dates to the 1870's and was sold through the Cathedral to raise funds for restoration. A similar example can be found in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Presentation plaque on back reads "This chair is part of the collection purchased by Rich's Inc, Connoisseur Gallery, directly from St. Paul's Cathedral, City of London, 1974. Height 32.5", width 16", seat depth14.5", seat height 15.75".
