Impressive Gorham Sterling Nine-arm Epergne, late 19th century, with ovoid bowl with slightly scalloped rim and acid etched with rocaille and foliate pendants, goldwashed to interior, monogrammed B, the bowl set on open strapwork shell and scroll lappets, raised on lobed stem, engraved with a silver anniversary presentation inscription dated 1889, on pierced base cast with flowerheads, and rocaille scrolls on stippled ground, the base supporting nine acanthus, flowerhead and reeded serpentine arms with open strapwork frames, holding ovoid bowls with serpentine rim and gold washed interior, raised on four shell feet with guilloche toes, ht. 18 in., approx. 278 troy oz. Note: This piece was used in Christmas floral displays at Hildene.
