Frederick Rondel (French-American, 1826-1892) Woodland Sketch. Signed l.r. Graphite on paper, 5 5/8 x 8 3/8 in., unframed. Condition: Toning, small stains, crease and small tear and loss l.r. Note: Frederick Rondel was born in Paris and came to America, where it is known that he spent time in Boston from 1855-57. He is known for his romantic New England landscapes and paintings of New York City. He became an Associate and faculty member at the National Academy of Design. He exhibited at the National Academy, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and the Boston Athenaeum. He was also the only art teacher of the great Winslow Homer.
