Oil on canvasboard, 27 1/2 x 23 1/2 in. (69.8 x 59.6 cm), framed. Condition: Curve to support, surface grime. Provenance: Deaccessioned from the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. N.B. Smith studied art at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School, an institution he would later become president of in 1931. Smith's extensive travels, including his involvement in the Boston-Harvard Expedition at Giza, became the subject matter and inspiration for much of his work. Smith, so grateful for the opportunity to see and study ancient treasures, made it his mission to record the great monuments and make them accessible to everyone.
