Shaker Maple Armless Chair with Rockers, stamped "FW" on right front post for Freegift Wells, (1785-1871) Watervliet, New York, the three slat back with arching slats flanked by turned posts topped by elliptical shaped pommels above an old splint seat and turned legs and stretchers, surface appears original, (minor imperfections), ht. 36, seat ht. 13 1/2 in. Literature: Shaker Furniture Makers , p. 24 reads: "This armless rocker is an example of the chairs thought to have been made by Freegift Wells between the 1830's and the civil war."
