Woven Splint Basket, from Watervliet, New York, probably Taghkanic, New York, 19th century, round form with domed base, double lashed rim, carved wooden swing handle, (few breaks and losses), ht. to top of handle loops 9 1/2, dia. 15 5/8 in. Note: Made close to the Shaker Community at Mount Lebanon, New York, this typical swing handle style Taghkanic basket was so well designed for field and orchard use and so inexpensive that the Shakers bought these for their own use.
