Shaker Yellow Cupboard and Case of Drawers, 1825-1850, Enfield, Connecticut, the pine and butternut built-in cupboard and case of drawers, having a yellow ochre stain, originated in a dwelling house belonging to the East family at Enfield, Connecticut; the sides of the drawers are tapered, this unusual method of construction is associated with some furniture makers from the Hancock Bishopric in western Massachusetts and Connecticut; the upper paneled door opens to a three-shelf interior above the lower cupboard with four shelves; both cupboard doors have red stain inside, original surface, (top and bottom moldings are additions), ht. 87 3/4, wd. 37, dp 19 1/8 in. Provenance: A previous owner acquired from the East family site and then sold to Hazel Hayes of Sommers, Connecticut. Literature: Shaker Design illustrated pp. 26-7.
