Windsor Writing Arm Chair, New England, late 18th century, the serpentine crest with scroll carved terminals above four spindles and shaped back rest continuing to a carved knuckle handhold and a writing surface all on vase and ring turned supports, shaped seat and splayed vase and ring turned legs joined by swelled stretchers, old refinish, (imperfections), ht. 37 1/2, seat ht. 17 1/4 in. Provenance: Belonged to William Allen, D.D., President of Bowdoin College and descended in his family.
