American School, 19th Century Lot of Four Miniature Portraits. Unsigned. Two bust-length portraits of a man and a woman, watercolor on paper in oval formats, gilt copper frames, with empty oval apertures on the reverse;a bust-length portrait of a gentleman in watercolor on ivory, oval format in a copper frame, the reverse with an oval aperture fitted with an ivory oval engraved with the initials "CG"; a half-length profile portrait of a woman in watercolor on paper, unframed; dia. 2-4 5/8 in. Condition: The first two with toning, the second has moisture damage, the third has stains, toning, foxing, and a crease. Note: A note accompanying the lot relates some family history regarding the portraits and identifies the sitters as Sarah, Samuel, and Christopher Godfrey.
