Polk, James (1795-1849), Autograph Letter Signed, August 22nd, 1841, as Governor of Tennessee, two pages, to Robert B. Reynolds, concerning the filling of a vacant judgeship and mentioning the impending veto of a controversial bank bill by Tyler which will result in the resignation of Tyler's entire cabinet (excepting Daniel Webster) and subsequent march on the White House by an armed mob, "...I fear I will find some difficulty in making a selection of a suitable person...I think it probable, too, that any member of the bar who is qualified might be unwilling to accept the appointment for so short a time...We have no veto of the Bank Bill yet." Note: After the veto of the Bank of the United States bill, Tyler's unpopularity amongst his party became so extreme that two years later impeachment proceedings were filed against him.
