Rare and Important Signed Photograph of Abraham Lincoln and His Son Tad, c. June, 1864, the albumen print affixed to a board and signed just below the print "A. Lincoln," the reverse inscribed "This autograph is genuine. It was procured by me at the White House in June 1864, F.W. Pitcher," 5 by 3 5/8 in. (abrasions to mount, dime size repaired punch hole lower right margin of photograph, minor scrapes). Note: According to Lorant, this photograph of Lincoln and Tad was taken at Matthew Brady's studio on February 9th, 1864. The journalist Noah Brooks wrote: "Lincoln explained to me that he was afraid that this picture was a species of false pretense. Most people, he thought, would suppose the book a large clasped Bible, whereas it was a big photograph album which the photographer, posing the father and son, had hit upon as a good device..."
