Abraham Lincoln and His Family The following lots were property of the late Dr. Robert Gerald McMurtry of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. A life-long Lincoln scholar, he published works on Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln. As a guest of the State Department, he traveled extensively at home and abroad while lecturing on Lincoln and the preservation of the Union. He was member of the Civil War Roundtable, authored numerous works, and co-authored The Insanity Files, chronicling Mary Todd Lincoln's descent into dementia. During the course of his life, Dr. McMurtry built two exceptional collections of Lincolniana. The first can be seen at the Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tennessee, the second for the Lincoln Life Insurance Company in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. (Lincoln, Abraham, 1809-65), Lock of hair, encased in a circular gilt-metal and gutta percha case, dia. 2 1/4 inches. Taken from the memory book of Ellen Richards of Elland, Ohio, secured by her brother-in-law, Colonel A.W. Gilbert of the 39th Ohio volunteer infantry, 19th century (not present) bore label "Abraham Lincoln, president of US, March 1861."
