Braxton, Carter (1736-1797), Signer from Virginia, Autograph Letter Signed, May 4, 1773, one page, to an unnamed recipient, concerning bonds and the sale of Negroes, (lightly toned). Text in full: Dear Sirs / In answer to your letter by Coll. Lewis I am to inform you that the bonds taken by the trustees for the sale of those negroes that we mortgaged to Coll. Baylor have been paid to him in his life, and upon inquiry of Mr. Power the acting trustee, there appears now nothing more to be paid to that estate by us. I made your letter know to young Mr. Pendleton who negotiates the business of Coll. Baylor's estate, and recommended it to him to pay the interest due on the bond; he said he would write you a full state of the matter and from thence I presume you will be able to form your judgement in what manner to act. This is the best I can give which I hope will prove satisfactory.
