Evelyn Metzger (American, 1911-2007) oil on panel (air brush technique) depicting a woman modeling in a red dress; signed lower left and dated '66; artwork measures approximately 48" x 23-7/8" unframed; the painting is accompanied by a hardbound book entitled "The Age of Grandeur & A Woman Who Lived It, Artist Evelyn Metzger" published by The National Museum of Women in the Arts that measures approximately 11-15/16" x 9-1/2"; painting in Fair overall condition with a crack to bottom right side and wear to edges; book in Very Good condition. Evelyn Metzger (1911-2007), painter of a variety of subjects in a variety of styles including realism, impressionism, fauvism, and cubism. In 1950, she had a major exhibition in Argentina and then exhibited in France, Mexico and the United States. Her work is in the Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. The book that accompanies the painting is "The Age of Grandeur And A Woman Who Lived It: Artist Evelyn Metzger". It is a hard bound book that covers both her social life and her artistic appreciation and contributions, examining her formal studies of art history at Vassar, her flexibility and travels, and her portraits.
