Japanese, 20th century. A fine pair of hand painted porcelain vases on stand of rectangular form with incurvate foot and mouth, the wide body sides each with a shaped cartouche bordered with bats and ruyi heads and bearing mirrored decoration - one side with a winter palace scene set before a body of water and snow covered mountains, and the other side with a summer scene with a waterside pagoda set before a lush mountainside - these cartouches reserved to a ground of iron red peony flowers on serpentine leafy vines, the foot with a band of leiwen (meandering key) centered to each side with two archaic characters bearing auspicious eye marks, and the mouth with a band of ruyi heads under further leiwen. Each porcelain to a fitted wood stand raised on four ogee feet. Underside of each porcelain with overglaze iron red calligraphic seal mark. Overall approximate height 10.5", width 6", depth 4". Porcelain approximate height 9", width 5", depth 3".
