After Frederic Sackrider Remington (American,1861-1909), "The Savage"-1908/ 1916, patinated bronze sculpture, signed lower right edge. Figural bust sculpture depicting a Native American male looking straight ahead wearing hooded cloth with rounded protruding sides, surmounting a green marble plinth with front reading "THE SAVAGE BY FREDERIC REMINGTON". Overall (including base) approximate height 12.125", width 5.9", depth 6". Note: Remington created this bust as a pendant to his only other sculptural bust depicting "The Sergeant"-1904. The artist only created one cast of "The Savage" and now its location is unknown. Many later copies exist including one in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York that was authorized by the artist's widow, Eva in 1916.
