Bamana tribe, African (Mali), likely early 20th century. Hand carved wood Chiwara dance crest headdress of traditional form with female antelope with baby antelope, mother depicted with pointed incised horns with leather caps at top with animal fur or hair accents above sloping face incised with repeating geometric patterning and accented with repousse metal bands, young child on back with similar handling, female with four legs surmounting a wood block pierced with four holes placing above head on woven cap (missing). Unmarked. Overall approximate height 46".Provenance: From the Private Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Calvin Wayne McLarin, Atlanta, Georgia.
