Tuareg people (West Africa (Mali), likely 19th century. A fine bronze ceremonial short sword or dagger and scabbard, the knife comprising a tapering iron blade with three round apertures along center line and three fuller grooves, the bronze handle with pommel of demilune form mounted on pegs over bean shaped support with cylindrical grip bearing cast motif mimicking textile or cord wrapping, the fitted scabbard with complimentary decoration of sawtooth and concentric circle patterning to the tapering body with flattened tubular ornamentation to each side. Items mounted to a separable custom display stand. Knife approximate length 18.5", width of handle 5.375". Scabbard approximate length 12.75", width 4.5".
