Favier Silversmiths (French, c. 1824-1976), circa second half 19th century. A pair of fine handcrafted first standard silver repousse decorated candlesticks with thick ring foot bearing band of twisted gadroons under domed field of acanthus leaves and scrolls issuing a central turned stem with acanthine details under a tapering fluted column capped by flaring acanthine capital surmounted by incurvate support for turned form candle cup with acanthus leaf accents to side. Each base to side with maker's mark, a Mercury head tax-exempt export mark used 1878-1973 indicating standard of 0.950% silver, and a small re-import mark as the head of a rabbit within an elongated octagonal cartouche. Approximate height 12.625", diameter of foot 5.5". Total approximate weight 40 troy ounces. Note: the hare and Mercury marks were used in conjunction on silver pieces that were exported tax-free and later re-imported with the payment of tax.
