American Aesthetic period diminutive sterling silver lidded box with exterior chased with Japanese or Orientalist decoration with bamboo plants, birds, insects, amulets, cherry blossoms on branch and flying butterflies. Rounded reeded handle on top of lid, woven motif handle on sloped lock form body, rounded apron accented with shells above four splayed Spanish feet, gold washed interior. Marked on bottom with " TIFFANY & Co. 2553 M 4942 STERLING SILVER" mark dating manufacture date to circa 1873-1891 and pattern number indicating date between circa 1873-1875. Interior lid and exterior on body also hallmarked "ET" in a rectangle indicating this piece was a French import. Overall approximate height 4.125", width 4.4", depth 2.9". Total weight approximately 8.96 troy ounces. Provenance: From the Estate of Channing S. Jun, M.D., Eastman, Georgia.
