Italian School, first half 20th century. "Capriccio with Philosopher", oil on monumental shaped canvas, apparently unsigned, verso with inscription to stretcher "MADE IN ITALY". Figural painting depicting a capriccio scene with an older bearded man dressed in regal robes, a thin dog and a group of forlorn women and children in the foreground, with waterside overgrown ruins including Corinthian Order columns and statues in the midground, with calm waters and blue skies in the distance. Approximate height (measured at tallest point) 74.5", width 88.5".
