Burmese, ca. 1890. A fine pair of mounted his & hers cabinets or vitrines on stands, custom made for the English consulate to Burma and his wife in 1890. Each hand carved of Burmese mahogany in an oval format, with reticulated fretwork composed of beading and scrolls with a central heart motif, over exceptionally large hand-blown radius glass panes, with a gadrooned skirt and carved acanthus knees, topped with a crown-molded cornice. Each with an interior shelf and lower stretcher shelf. Hers with female Queen Anne pad feet, and his with an adaptation of male feet in a foliated acanthus scroll. Both accented with a faceted gold glass and brass handle and key escutcheon. Provenance: purchased by the current owner in Chang Mai, Thailand. Unmarked. Approximate height 76", width 38", depth 23".
