French, 19th century. An Empire style walnut and gilt metal mounted Lit de Bateau or day bed having outswept scrolled sides with swan neck molded terminals above an upholstered drop in seat with removable cushion and single bolster pillow covered in yellow silk with small white flowers above a frieze decorated with mounted anthemion, six-point stars and facing sphinx's raised on winged lion monpodiae legs terminating in paw feet. Approximate height 34.5", width 71", depth 27.5", seat height 20.5" (with cushion).
