Manner of Théodore Deck (French, 1823-1891), circa mid-late 19th century. A French Aestheticism faience pottery lidded jar or box of round form raised on a ring foot and having domed top body half as lid, the whole with ochre toned glaze over carved flower blossoms and leaf sprays, hand painted with rust colored flowers on thorny stems and with turquoise and cobalt blue Persian style band to top edge of body. Underside of foot with apparently mis-struck impressed mark, possibly the "TH" monogram to the front of Deck's maker's mark, also with black underglaze abstracted pictogram, possibly a factory mark for flawed pieces. Approximate height 3.25", diameter 6.25". Provenance: From the Estate of Channing S. Jun, M.D., Eastman, Georgia.
