Early 20th century. "Alectryon And Ares", bronze with marble base, signed on top of base "S. Wallet". Figural bronze sculpture with deep red, ovular marble base depicting the Greek god of war Ares capturing the rooster Alectryon; in greek mythology Ares asked the young Alectryon to guard the door while he and Aphrodite engage in an elicit affair, Alectryon fell asleep allowing Helios (the sun) to enter the room and catch Ares and Aphrodite together, Ares was so enraged that he turned Alectryon into a rooster who was forever tasked with crowing when the sun rose, apparently unmarked. Overall approximately24.25" x 9.5" x 7.25".
