Asian, first quarter 20th century. A very fine pierced hard wood screen having four distinct panel, each with five figural brass medallions, each having a distinct shape including fan, cloud, circle, octagon and rectangle, the fan form brass medallion depicting butterflies and cherry blossoms, the cloud form brass medallion depicting Asian man in elaborate robes with stylized glouds and grass, the circular medallion depicting a figure mounted on a dragon with bird's feet, the figure with trident in hand, the octagonal medallion depicting a second figure mounted on dragon with hoofed feet, the figure with sword in hard, the rectangular medallion depicting a pheonix with peony flowers, each medallion surrounded by pierced and scrolled foliate design, each panel with pierced scrolled foliate skirt over two legs, back with inscribed numerals "1", "2", "4". Provenance: From the Estate of Vice Admiral Hugh Goodwin and Mrs. Eleanor Welty Goodwin thence by descent to their daughter, Sidney Mary Goodwin and her husband, Mr. George Marshall Brown of Georgia.
