New Milford Pottery aka Wannopee Pottery Company (American (Connecticut), founded 1887-1903), last quarter 19th century. A collection of sixteen pieces of Lettuce Leaf majolica in pale chartreuse comprising the following pieces: five circular plates (diameter 8.5"); two circular plates (diameter 7.5"); one circular plate (diameter 6.4"); two circular shallow bowls,(approximate height 1.25", diameter 6.25"); three circular shallow bowls, unmarked (approximate height 1.25", diameter 5.6"); one handled cup (approximate height 3", width 4.5", depth 3.6"); one leaf shaped serving bowl (approximate height 2.5", width 13.25", depth 7.25"); small leaf shape serving dish (approximate height 1.25", width 7.5", depth 5"). Most pieces marked "Trade Lettuce Leaf in black. Cup is marked with impressed '214'. Leaf shaped serving bowl impressed with the W within the sunburst and the number 218. The three small bowls unmarked. Note: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was a collector of the green lettuce leaf and in 1996, Sotheby's auctioned off some of her collection. A group of twenty pieces brought $6900.00 and put Wannopee Lettuce Leaf in the spotlight.
