Japanese, first half 20th century. A bronze baluster form vase with applied elephant mask handles at shoulder, the body with 2 inset ovular cartouches each bearing a scene with bird amid flowers, the cartouches bordered by a ring of leiwen or meandering key, the mouth with a band of leaf tips, and the foot with a band of intersecting inverted arches with dangling serpentine vines and surmounted by butterflies, the whole heightened with gilt and polychrome accents. Unmarked. Approximate height 10.5", width across handles 7.125". Provenance: From the Estate of Channing S. Jun, M.D., Eastman, Georgia.
