Japanese, 19th & 20th century. A collection of five diminutive cast bronze vases of baluster form comprising a tall vase with etched cockerel or rooster resting on cherry tree branch with silver and gilt accents, calligraphic signature to back; a vase with etched phoenix resting on a cherry tree branch with silver and gilt accents, calligraphic signature to back and seal mark to underside; a vase with wider mouth with relief decoration of a small bird resting on a lotus pod, with gilt accents, apparently unmarked; a squat bronze vase with relief swirling dragon on tondo with gilt and patinated accents, apparently unmarked; and a gilt bronze CPO vase with flat shoulder decorated with silver gilt bamboo motif, "CPO" within diamond cartouche to underside, also signed with calligraphic marks to side. First four described vases likely Meiji Period (1868-1912). Tallest vase approximate height 7.25". Shortest vase approximate height 4.25". Provenance: From the Estate of Channing S.
