GEORGE II STERLING TANKARD, ROBERT COX, LONDON, 1759-60, H 7 1/4":A sterling silver tankard with hinged lid and scroll handle, an engraved coat of arms below the spout features a bowknot crest and shield enclosing two crossed swords, banner below with Latin inscription; later Victorian floral repousse decoration including dated inscription at the lid, "M. T. G. to J. C. R. 1895". Hallmarks at the interior of the hinged lid and at the rim of the tankard include a lion passant, crowned leopard, Gothic D date letter, and maker's mark, script "R.C" enclosed, possibly for Robert Cox (see additional photo).
