JAPANESE SATSUMA EARTHENWARE PILGRIM FLASK, MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912), H 12", W 9":Decorated at one side with a Gion street scene featuring Geisha on promenade, verso having scene of people drinking sake and picnicking under cherry blossoms. Heavy fired gold border with alternating cartouches of the Tokugawa mon and the Imperial mon. Shoulders having a teal ground with raised gold accents, central scenes of trees blossoming alongside a mountain river. Signed at the underside with two-character mark within gilt cartouche.
