CHARLES II STERLING SILVER MUFFINEER, LONDON, 1665, H 6 1/4":Maker's mark "I. W" surmounted by a crown [1683-4, Ref.: Jackson's "English Goldsmiths and Their Marks", c.1949, p.141] appears at the cover and the underside of base ("I" is rubbed); of cylindrical form with domed cover pierced with floral and fleur de lis decoration, rope design rim surmounted by a baluster form finial, on domed base with rope border. Additional hallmarks at the base include a lion passant and a crowned leopard. Weighing 5.91 troy oz. Provenance, Mrs. Edsel Bryant Ford, Grosse Pointe, Mich., to present owner; purchased as 1665 though no date letter is apparent.
