ISIDORE J. BONHEUR (FRENCH 1827-1901), BRONZE SCULPTURE, "STEEPLECHASE", LATER 19TH C., H 34", L 39":Period casting; signed and marked "France"; brown patina. Isidore Jules Bonheur was a painter and sculptor and the brother of Rosa Bonheur. He studied under his father and also at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Exhibiting regularly at the salons and the Royal Academy. Isidore won a gold medal in 1889. Although a prolific painter of animals and landscapes, bonheur is much more distinguished for his animalier bronze sculptors, most of which were cast by Hippolyte Peyrol.
