GEORGE R. BONFIELD (AMER. 1805 - 1898), OIL ON CANVAS, 'THE STRANDED SHIP', 1863, 20" X 30":Having plate on front of frame stating Artist, title, and date. Signed lower right. Also signed, titled and dated on verso of canvas. Depicting ship at shore. Bonfield did some landscapes, but primarily he was a marine artist of scenes along the Delaware River and Atlantic Coast. His work was popular in the 1840s and 1850s, and many of his collectors were amongst the wealthiest of people.
